Meet Abbie
HI! I’m Abbie – a white, pansexual, neurodiverse, agnostic-athiest, nonbinary person. I’ve been a therapist for two years and love what I do! I came to Chosen Path Collective to work with awesome people that focus on transparency, community-building, and anti-oppressive therapy. In and out of therapy, I am naturally compassionate, very curious, and values-driven. I tend to be very expressive and have been told on a couple of occasions that I remind people of a cartoon character, which I take as an excellent compliment on my openness, transparency, and unmasking. All of these parts of me help inform my version of therapy, allowing me to engage the folks I work with in introspective exploration of who they are and how they came to be.
Neurodivergence
Working with neurodivergent folks is a passion of mine. As someone who didn’t realize this for myself until I was an adult, I know firsthand what it is like to struggle with neurodiverse traits in a neurotypical world. Some of us try so hard to fit into the box of ‘normal’ and it just never feels quite right; we tend to be pretty anxious and carry a lot of guilt, shame, and maybe even self-hatred because of this. By digging into these patterns, understanding where they come from, and learning to challenge them with compassion and care, we can work together on helping you accept and appreciate your own neurodiversity, and manage existing in this neurotypical society we’re stuck with (for now).
Complex, Childhood, & Religious Traumas
Trauma is something that can be so insidious in our lives, especially when it’s been difficult to wrap our heads around, lifelong, or tied to areas of identity that run deep. It’s something that can be hard to define or recognize, and even harder to talk about. Approaching trauma with care, compassion, and curiosity is a passion of mine. Can we make our trauma and its impact evaporate? I wish, but no. Can we learn how to manage it, heal from it, and decrease the space it takes up in our lives? Absolutely!
Identity Exploration
Identity exploration is a special interest of mine! Have you ever wondered why you think, act, and feel the way you do? Me too! I bring a lot of curiosity to understanding how you came to be who you are, and love when people want to dig into it with me. Understanding the ‘whys’ we all ask is intriguing, yes, and also a very important part of self-exploration. If we know why we do what we do, we can make informed decisions about what to do moving forward.
As a therapist, I think I am best described as inquisitive, empathetic, transparent, and non-judgmental. My goal is to understand you more and more each time we talk. I will happily share insights, theories, and thoughts in sessions, though I’m not big on advice. I am not the expert in your life and your experiences, you are. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and make the choices that feel right for you.
Abbie Outside of the Therapy Room:
Outside of therapy, you’d probably find me hanging out at home, cooking, singing, dancing, and talking to my dog. I love to get outside, particularly for hiking, kayaking, and swimming. I love engaging in my special interests, including DnD, crafting, and taking care of my plants!
