Individual & Group Therapy

Therapy is not meant to ‘fix’ you. You are not broken. Many of us who have intersecting marginalized identities are living in a world that was not built with our bodies, brains, identities, or needs in mind. Therapy can be a tool to help you find your own liberation – especially from the harmful systems that taught you who you are is ‘too much.’

You CAN reimagine how you want to move through the world and your life, on your own terms.

Our work together isn’t going to be viewing your struggles as mere ‘symptoms,’ but instead examining the real harm that has been caused by trauma and systems that have failed you. We will always consider your autonomy, safety, and consent in our work together. Your time spent in therapy will be focused on uncovering, discovering, and welcoming your most authentic self into the room.

We believe that you do not need a diagnosis to receive mental healthcare. However, we accept insurance to reduce the barriers towards receiving care, which means we will be required to use a diagnosis in your medical chart (if you’re using insurance). Regardless of the requirements imposed upon providers by insurance companies, we will never reduce you to a diagnosis and will always treat you as the whole and complex human being you are.

What to expect during session with your therapist:

Our therapists reflect a wide range of lived experiences, identities, specialties, and modality approaches. We don’t have a one size fits all approach.

However you can expect that all of our therapists will:

  • Center Client Autonomy – We will collaborate with you on goals, and focus areas.
  • Be Neuro-Affirming – No masking required, we understand that our brains and needs are different.
  • Focus on Liberation – We will challenge and untangle the systems of harm and shame with you.
  • Consent, Always – You are in control of what we explore together, and the pace at which we explore it.

Additional Information About Individual Therapy and What To Expect:

  • Your first session will be an ‘Intake Session.’ This is heavily focused on gathering specific information required by insurance companies in order to create a ‘treatment plan’ (also required). This session can sometimes feel rigid or boring – give it time. We always recommend that you meet with your therapist at least three times before deciding whether or not it’s a good fit, simply because it’s hard to get to know one another when the conversation is being directed by insurance requirements.
  • Therapy only works if you are consistent in showing up. It’s considered best practice to start with weekly sessions so we’ll always try to start with that frequency when possible.
  • You’re required to be an active and engaged participant in therapy. Your therapist is not meant to tell you what to do. They won’t solve the problem or direct your choices. Instead, they will reflect who you are back to you without bias so that your answers come from you, always.

The Whats, Whys, and Hows of Group Therapy:

Group therapy is a space to hold and be held by others who are walking similar paths to you. As humans, we arent meant to carry everything alone. We heal in community with one another.

In a society and culture that encourages individualism, isolation, and shame when seeking support, in group therapy we connect with others. We share wisdom, witness pain, and create safety – together.
