Individual & Group Therapy
What to expect during session with your therapist:
Our therapists reflect a wide range of lived experiences, identities, specialties, and modality approaches. We don’t have a one size fits all approach.
However you can expect that all of our therapists will:
- Center Client Autonomy – We will collaborate with you on goals, and focus areas.
- Be Neuro-Affirming – No masking required, we understand that our brains and needs are different.
- Focus on Liberation – We will challenge and untangle the systems of harm and shame with you.
- Consent, Always – You are in control of what we explore together, and the pace at which we explore it.
Additional Information About Individual Therapy and What To Expect:
- Your first session will be an ‘Intake Session.’ This is heavily focused on gathering specific information required by insurance companies in order to create a ‘treatment plan’ (also required). This session can sometimes feel rigid or boring – give it time. We always recommend that you meet with your therapist at least three times before deciding whether or not it’s a good fit, simply because it’s hard to get to know one another when the conversation is being directed by insurance requirements.
- Therapy only works if you are consistent in showing up. It’s considered best practice to start with weekly sessions so we’ll always try to start with that frequency when possible.
- You’re required to be an active and engaged participant in therapy. Your therapist is not meant to tell you what to do. They won’t solve the problem or direct your choices. Instead, they will reflect who you are back to you without bias so that your answers come from you, always.
