Therapist Communication Expectations
- We ask that our clinicians have clear working hours and that they stick to those working hours as closely as possible in order to prevent burnout. Our clinicians are not on-call and are not available to respond to crisis-level events.
- We do not want our clinicians to feel obligated to engage in ‘text / email therapy’ (responding to detailed or complex communication that is meant for the therapy room). Emails, texts, and phone calls should be limited to non-urgent communication such as scheduling or resource-seeking.
- If you do send your clinician a more in-depth email related to therapeutic work, it’s absolutely ok for them to wait to discuss that with you until you meet again.
** Clinicians are helpers and are naturally inclined to give to their clients. Setting clear boundaries is something we encourage in order to protect their well-being. If you find that your needs aren’t being met at this level of care, please talk to your clinician about this so that you can work together to figure out a plan to offer you the appropriate support you need. **
