Frequently Asked Questions
How do telehealth sessions work?
You’ll find a link to your telehealth session in your client portal 24 hours before your session is scheduled to take place. Just click on the link to join! These sessions will work best on a laptop, computer, or tablet. You can find additional helpful information about our platform and supported devices by clicking this link.
Can I switch between telehealth and in-person sessions?
Yes! Just let your clinician know ahead of time so they can set that up. Please keep in mind that some insurance plans have different copays for telehealth vs. in-person sessions, so check with your insurance company ahead of time to make sure you aren’t surprised by a higher session fee.
Can I have my partner(s) join a session sometimes?
Yes - as long as you discuss this with your clinician ahead of time and you both agree it’s appropriate. You and your partner(s) will need to sign a couple of consent forms in order to do this, so please allow time for that process to be completed.
Do you need to be an individual client to join a group here?
You do not have to be an established client in order to join a group but you will need to go through the scheduling process and fill out all the required paperwork as if you are an individual client. We’ll go over that process with you when joining the group.
What do I do if I feel my therapist is not a good fit?
Firstly, we want you to tell us! Clinicians completely understand that this happens for all kinds of reasons and they won’t take it personally. You can either let them know directly or you can reach out to us at contact@chosenpathcollective.com to discuss it. Either way, our goal will be to discuss what worked and what didn’t so that we can help find the right person for you. It isn’t always going to be a perfect match at first, but we’ll work together to find your person and get back on track.
Can I work with more than one therapist at your practice?
Yes - under certain circumstances. If you’re seeking a different service such as relationship or group counseling in addition to individual counseling, we’re always happy to help facilitate that process and get you settled in with the right clinician. If you’re seeking a specific modality such as EMDR for trauma and your current therapist doesn’t offer that modality, we can schedule you with someone else at the practice who can. We have to be mindful of insurance limitations always, like never scheduling two sessions on the same day, but we’ll talk to you about that as a part of the process.
How do you ensure a safe and inclusive environment for marginalized clients?
Inclusion is foundational to our practice. Our clinicians are a reflection of the communities we serve and have a strong voice in everything we do. We are dedicated to inclusive-practices in every step of the services we offer and respond to client feedback with the highest level of urgency and attention.
How many sessions do I need before I can be provided a surgery letter?
Our clinicians are trained and certified to offer letters of recommendation for gender-affirming surgery and can typically provide those after one 55-minute therapy session, as we use an informed consent model for surgical preparedness evaluations.
Will my chart include a diagnosis that could put me at risk?
We will discuss with you any and all diagnoses that we may consider placing in your medical file to collaboratively decide what is medically necessary. We never want to create unnecessary harm to your safety or autonomy. We work within legal and ethical guidelines to document care responsibly without compromising your safety or privacy.
Do you have a trans or gay agenda?
Yes! We unapologetically seek to affirm, protect, and celebrate LGBTQIA+ folks and help dismantle the systems that harm us. We are not neutral on this matter.
Can you provide connections to LGBTQIA+ affirming medical providers and community resources outside of the clinical setting?
Of course! We are constantly building our network of trusted, affirming providers and resources. You can take a look at some of our resources on our ‘Resources’ page or ask your clinician for guidance.
Do I need to be ‘out’ to start therapy?
You don’t have to ‘be’ anything to start therapy. Your story is yours and we’ll meet you where you are and move at a pace that feels safe to you, no matter what you’re exploring.
